Health & Safety Lead

Get Out from Behind the Desk and Make a Real Impact

At Power Farming, safety isn't about paperwork sitting on a shelf. It's about ensuring our people go home safe every day.

We're looking for a hands-on Health & Safety Lead who enjoys being out in the business, building relationships, coaching leaders, and leading practical safety improvements across our national network. You'll know how to keep safety simple, proportionate and easy for people to apply, without creating unnecessary process or complexity.

This is not a desk-bound compliance role.

You'll spend time in our branches, workshops, yards and service operations across New Zealand, working alongside managers, technicians and frontline teams to improve systems, strengthen capability and drive safety improvements.

If you're passionate about practical health and safety and have experience in agriculture, heavy transport, construction, engineering, manufacturing or other high-risk industries, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

Reporting to the HR Manager, you'll lead the health and safety function and play a key role in lifting capability and maturity across the Power Farming network. This is a national lead role with no direct reports, working through influence, coaching and strong partnerships with operational leaders.

Our preferred location for this role is Morrinsville, however we would also consider candidates based in Auckland or Christchurch.

Key projects will include:

  • Reviewing and enhancing our Health & Safety Management System.
  • Supporting the transition to a stronger critical risk management framework.
  • Reviewing and updating Safe Work Procedures (SWPs).
  • Conducting branch audits and site reviews.
  • Leading and driving the Power Farming Health & Safety Committee.
  • Supporting the implementation of new Health & Safety software.
  • Coaching managers and supervisors to build confidence and capability.
  • Supporting incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Working with branches to identify risks and implement practical solutions.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who:

✅ Builds strong relationships and credibility quickly.

✅ Is comfortable challenging unsafe behaviours and practices.

✅ Enjoys coaching and developing others.

✅ Can balance compliance requirements with operational realities and turn them into clear, practical solutions.

✅ Keeps safety straightforward and avoids overcomplicating systems, procedures or expectations.

✅ Is willing to travel regularly throughout New Zealand.

✅ Prefers being in workshops, yards and operational environments rather than sitting behind a desk.

Skills & Experience

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • Experience in a Health & Safety Lead, senior advisory or similar role.
  • A relevant Health & Safety qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation.
  • Experience working in high-risk industries such as:
  • Agriculture, Heavy transport, Construction, Manufacturing, Engineering, Mining or similar operational environments.
  • Experience conducting audits, investigations and risk assessments.
  • Experience reviewing health and safety systems and procedures.
  • Strong communication, coaching and influencing skills.
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence.

Why Join Power Farming?

  • Opportunity to make a visible difference across a national business.
  • Variety, travel and exposure to multiple sites and operations.
  • Work with experienced operational leaders and technical teams.
  • Lead meaningful health and safety improvement projects.
  • Vehicle allowance provided.
  • Supportive and down-to-earth team environment.
  • Opportunity to leave a lasting legacy on our health and safety systems and culture.
